“Losing Humanity” by Alessandra Alkema

Note from the artist: “My exact inspiration was quite random: I felt like autumn and Halloween had already started for me so I decided to do an eerie and spooky digital piece. I also took in a factor of my own life, how change and transformation was coming and I was about to become a college student. I decided to make a piece of "transformation" while tying my love for Halloween, drawing a woman "losing her humanity" and becoming a different creature.”

Alessandra Alkema is a freshman undergraduate pursuing a major in Neuroscience and a minor in Japanese with the hopes of attending med school and becoming the first doctor in her family. She participes in LSWA and MUNUM at the University of Michigan while also working part-time. She loves painting, making jewelry, digital art, decorating, and making three coffee runs a day. She also hopes to study abroad this upcoming summer in Hikone, Japan while continuing to pursue a career in medicine and learn a new language.
