About the Journal

The LSWA Arts and Literary Journal is the student-run publication of Lloyd Scholars for Writing and the Arts (LSWA), a University of Michigan living-learning community. We curate three collections: our online-only Features, an annual digital journal, and an annual print journal. We are dedicated to showcasing the outstanding creativity and skill of the LSWA community.

  • Aileen Dosev

    EDITOR-IN-CHIEF

    Aileen is a junior at the University of Michigan studying Business, Sustainability, and Complex Systems. This is her third year in LSWA and she is so excited to giving back as a Creative Mentor! She loves to write poetry, read tarot, and take walks in the Arb.

  • Gwendolyn Bulko

    EDITOR-IN-CHIEF

    Gwen is a sophomore majoring in Biopsychology, Cognition, and Neuroscience with a minor in Philosophy. She is a LSWA Resident Advisors this year. Her hobbies include longboarding, reading (mostly non-fiction), writing poetry, and cultivating plants.

  • Mitali Khanna Sharma

    ADVISOR

    Mita joined LSWA as the journal advisor in 2022, after receiving her B.A. in English Literature from Columbia University. She has a background in poetry and design, and recently graduated with her Master’s in Ecosystem Science and Management from U of M!

    My name is Luca D'stasio, a Freshman at the University of Michigan majoring in Physics with minors in Philosophy & Music. In my spare time I write articles online, analyze films, and play cello or piano.

  • Kaitlyn Marria

    ART/MIXED MEDIA EDITOR & ILLUSTRATOR

    Kaitlyn Marria is a freshman in LSWA majoring in Creative Writing! In her free time, she enjoys reading, binging TV shows, drawing and painting, and writing creative nonfiction. As an A&LJ editor, she is excited to help publish some of the amazing work created by LSWA students!

  • Katence Brown-Holzgen

    ART/MIXED MEDIA EDITOR & PHOTOGRAPHER

    Katence (she/her) is a freshman studying Psychology and Women's and Gender Studies at the University of Michigan. Outside of LSWA, Katence is a member of The Michigan Daily writing staff and PAWS of Ann Arbor. She also enjoys reading and taking photographs, and is incredibly excited to see all the creativity that LSWA students will be showcasing this year!

  • Arya Shah

    ART/MIXED MEDIA EDITOR & DESIGN EDITOR

    Arya Shah is a freshman currently studying neuroscience at the University of Michigan with plans to pursue public health. She loves writing poetry, satire, songs, and opinion pieces. She also enjoys playing cards, singing, and devouring sweet treats. Arya is extremely passionate about various art forms and is eager to explore creative expression at LSWA's Literary Writing & Arts Journal!

  • Sam Yu

    WRITING EDITOR

    Sam is a sophomore majoring in PPE. He has written much formal verse poetry and short stories and indulges in 19th-20th century world literature.

  • Yuchen (Ethan) Luo

    WRITING EDITOR & WEB EDITOR

    Yuchen (Ethan) Luo is a first-year student at the University of Michigan with an intended major in Political Science. He is passionate about freewriting, especially exploring the outside world through narrative and short stories. Ethan is excited to engage with the Literary & Arts and Journal Club as he discovers his extracurricular Interests. He graduated from Shanghai American School, Shanghai, China.

  • Kendal Bazerman

    WRITING EDITOR & SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGER

    Kendal Bazerman (she/her) is a freshman student in LSWA pursuing a dual degree with Theatre Arts in SMTD and Comparative Literature, Film, & Media in LSA. Her work on the journal is a natural extension for her passion for writing, especially poetry. She can most often be found working on a production as an actor, technician, or most recently, a dramaturg. She believes strongly in the power of the arts as a vessel for communication, understanding, and connection, and is proud to be a member of this team supporting the curation and creation of student work.

  • Isabella Bott

    Isabella is a second year at the University of Michigan and is a returning student in LSWA. She enjoys writing poems and short stories, as well as analyzing different pieces of literature. In her free time she enjoys reading, playing tennis, working on her short story, and hanging out with her friends

  • Maggie Cox

    WRITING EDITOR

    Maggie is a Freshman hoping to study Environmental Science and Math. She loves to cook, hike, write, and she's on the same anxiety medication as her dog! She can't wait to get a closer look at the artistic creativity of her peers at LSWA through the Arts and Lit Journal! Cheers to a great year ahead!

    Ariyana (she/her) is a freshman majoring in Astrophysics; she is from Warren, Michigan, and loves fostering her creative hobbies like singing, writing, reading, and playing instruments alongside her nerdy sciencey interests; she's specifically very passionate about films and shows!

    Selena is a current architecture student at the Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning. In her free time, she enjoys drawing, painting, shopping, and spending time with her friends.

    Isabella Sophia Charpentier is an undergraduate student who loves writing, literature, and exploring new artistic voices. She is excited to contribute to the journal and continue developing her passion for creative expression.

  • Erin Yeats

    WRITING EDITOR

    Erin Yeats is a first-year student from Royal Oak, Michigan. She enjoys reading, particularly the works of V.E. Schwab and Daniel Quinn, fuzzy socks, walking whilst yapping, and is probably the biggest fan of Mojo's pesto mayonnaise that you know.

    VISUAL ART/MIXED MEDIA EDITOR

    Ellie has had a lot of experience in the visual and performing arts and is looking forward to taking on a new role as an arts journal editor. She can't wait to see the talent her peers possess!

  • Penelope Hentsch-Cowles

    As an avid writer and artist, Penelope has experience in both submitting and reviewing work for literary magazines in high school. She looks forward to seeing the amazing work that her peers will create this year, and giving that work a platform via the journal.
