“Lacy” by Addie Siembieda

Handmade like pastry

buttery and flakey.

Are all your metaphors layered and flavorful?

New meanings falling off golden crust,

dripping syrupy like ambrosia.

Does your heart live on your sleeve,

or can you cover it up with elbowed opera gloves?

Tattoo it into image, and when the ink meets your soul

the result will never fade or sag.

What delicate hands, sculpting the pain

I hope must plague you

into masterpiece. Weaving

wispy threads with fountain penstrokes.

More poet than tortured.

My ink bleeds and pools, and

my common thread has snagged.

Your agony is elegant, your sensitivities are sexy,

and I can’t even style mine with grace.

Yet I wish my work would wear a bridal veil

or lounge in lingerie.
