“From ‘Mothers & Sons: Raising Boys to Be Men’” by Aileen Dosev

Aileen Dosev is a published writer, LSWA A&L Journal Editor, and a student at the Ross School of Business.

Artist Statement: This blackout poem is from an excerpt of "Mothers & Sons," a old parenting manual on "raising boys to be men." This particular excerpt stresses the importance of protecting boys from sexually provocative material. It made me wonder: how does our society teach masculinity and taboos, and how does this affect young girls becoming women?
